Govt must set up population board: Flannery - Sydney Morning Herald announces good move

Professor Tim Flannery, the head of the federal government's climate commission, has called on the government to create an independent body to set a population target.
In an address to the the Australian Academy of Science, Prof Flannery said the group should be free of the power blocs which push for a larger population such as religions, government and industry.
The body, set up like the independent Reserve Bank, would initially set a population target for 2030 and revise the target every two to three years.

"No one is doing this sort of job at the moment," Professor Flannery said in Canberra.
