Philippine lawmakers to clash over controversial contraception bill - Asia Pacific News

MANILA: A key bill comes up for debate in the Philippines on Tuesday, as lawmakers discuss the future of the country's family planning laws.

The Reproductive Health Bill is expected to lead to heated arguments in the House of Representatives as it pits the conservative pro-Church politicians against the administration of President Benigno Aquino, over the contentious issue of legalising artificial family planning methods in the staunchly Roman Catholic country.


The proposed Reproductive Health Bill has not only sparked a heated national debate between the bill's supporters and its critics, it has also caused a major rift between the influential Roman Catholic Church hierarchy and the administration of President Aquino.
