If I have not written for some time, it is because I have been waiting for the outcome of the battle between President Museveni and the Governor of Bank of Uganda, Dr Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebile, over what the Governor described as the government’s “financial indiscipline”, which has led to the depletion of Uganda’s foreign reserves.
Unfortunately, there is no end to the ‘fight’ yet. Instead, the situation is getting uglier with Umeme, the main electricity supplier, declaring a return to load-shedding because the government owes it and the smaller power companies billions of shillings in unpaid bills, while the city traders have also joined the fray over the rising cost of import and prices in general.
